massage therapy

what to expect

A Back 2 Normal massage, itself, is an integrative experience. In each session, we customize a blend of the services offered into a personalized treatment focused on you and your individual needs. You may request a specific therapy, or relax and experience all of them. Our team of professionals works together to optimally and synergistically treat each client as a whole and communicate with each other in order to streamline your care and target your treatments.

A few tips:

  • Arriving early allows you to unwind before your treatment.
  • Remember, it’s all about you. Talk with your therapist so they can personalize your treatment. Let them know which areas need more attention or which areas you wish to avoid.
  • Please feel free to communicate any need for adjusting the amount of pressure applied during treatment, or your temperature comforts.
  • For most massage services, we recommend disrobing completely. Your therapist will keep you comfortably draped during your service.

reflexology

deep tissue

Releases deeply-held pain patterns of muscle, tendon, and fascia tension with deep strokes that penetrate contracted layers while relaxing and soothing the muscle. While the focus may be on specific areas, this is a full-body toxin release. Drink plenty of water to flush and hydrate before and after treatment. Any deep work may cause soreness, but should feel better than ever within a day or two.

neuromuscular therapy (NMT)

Deep and precise pressure is applied to soft tissue restrictions with fingertips, hands, or elbows that are held for 30-60 seconds. This is an interactive therapeutic treatment requiring feedback from you. This method can restore the structural, functional, and postural integrity of the body; remove pain, muscular tension, stress, and restrictions to health. Results will be improved muscle function, lengthening of muscle fibers, improved joint function, and increased venous flow. Sometimes the effects are immediate and the pain is resolved, and sometimes it takes a day or two for the residual soreness to subside. Drink plenty of water to flush toxins before and after treatment. NMT is highly effective for eliminating chronic pain by skillfully addressing trigger points, tender points, neural entrapment, nerve compression, ischemia, low back pain, headaches, neck pain, TMJ syndrome, repetitive motion injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome, and tingling hands and feet.

craniosacral therapy

A very subtle and relaxing light touch technique that has profound healing effects on the body by freeing the central nervous system from restrictions. By monitoring the rhythm and releasing tensions, it allows the entire body to relax and self-correct. CST strengthens resistance to disease while eliminating pain, dysfunction, and stress. This massage therapy is effective for all ages, from newborns to elders. Unless incorporated into another service, a session is fully clothed.

myofascial release

Deep and slow work affects the connective tissue of the body, which can turn into a “straight-jacket” around the muscles, organs, and bones if not specifically treated and released. Restricted fascia is responsible for pain and dysfunction that eludes traditional medical tests and massage therapy treatments for muscles. No lotion or cream is used, in order to properly grip and penetrate the superficial layers of skin, hooking into the fascia. Great relief and release may be felt, as well as body improved posture and body lengthening.

postural muscle assessments

The careful observation and evaluation of muscles and their placement in structure and function as related to hypertonicity, hypotonicity, imbalance and dysfunction.

muscle energy techniques

A gentle stretch and resist technique that educates and restores balance to soft tissue whose dysfunctional tone distorts skeletal structures of the body and causes asymmetry.

chair massage

A seated, non-invasive, quick stress-solution as 90% of stress is held in the head and neck. This massage can also address the back, arms, and hands and is great for those who cannot lie flat or are short on time. Fully Clothed.

touch for health

A practice of Kinesiology that uses muscle testing as a method of biofeedback to identify imbalances in the body’s energy system. By re-balancing the body’s energies, it activates the body’s intrinsic healing process so that it can better heal itself. Incorporate into a massage or fully clothed.

This technique has the goal of restoring homeostasis in the body by preventing joint and muscle stiffness, reducing stress and toxicity as well as restoring hormonal balance. During your session, wellness goals will be reviewed to enhance your experience and help learn more about how essential oils can be part of an overall preventive health care routine.

scalp massage

A nurturing experience that provides deep relaxation to the head and scalp, restoring harmony throughout the entire body. A dance of light caressing touch, repetitive circular stimulation, deeper squeezes and gentle hair pulls all provide increased circulation to the head and scalp which nourishes hair health, relieves headaches, relaxes eye strain and nervousness, and can even provide a glow to the complexion of the face. Scalp massage can also help awaken creativity centers in your brain for more enlightened idea processing or long-term meditation. abhyanga

is an ancient Indian Ayurvedic oil massage therapy for healing and detoxifying body, mind and spirit. This ayurvedic detox and stress reduction therapy is performed using a combination of aromatic oils prepared with herbs warmed and blended to your Dosha type.

The doshas are biological energies found throughout the human body and mind. There are three doshas in Ayurveda: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Each person has all three of the doshas in their physiology but in different proportions, similar to your fingerprint. Determining the Doshas is a simple process and it is interesting for anyone looking to regain homeostasis balance, destress and better understand their physical, mental and emotional patterns.

This Ayurvedic treatment starts with a private session where the therapist works on the Dosha questionnaire with you to help determine your Dosha imbalances. This lays the groundwork for the initial and follow up sessions which involve massage with Doshas specific oils. Additionally, Doshic nutrition and Ayurveda medicine concepts are also explored to maximize one’s healing.

The initial session is 90 minutes and follow up sessions are 60 minutes. All sessions include oils during treatment and to continue for home use. For best results, a package of seven sessions is recommended with weekly treatments.
