beresponsible Spotlight: Ellen and her Journey Back 2 Tennis
Each month, Back 2 Normal features a client as our “beresponsible Spotlight.” This month’s spotlight is on Ellen, a tennis player and a perfect example of being empowered to create your own journey to wellness.
- Tell us about your background and how you found Back 2 Normal?
I am a happily retired high school teacher who was fortunate to move to Florida and begin a new life as a tennis enthusiast. With the guidance of the talented tennis professionals at the St. Pete Tennis Center, I was able to develop my skills, follow my passion for tennis and compete all the way up to the national level. Last Fall, I was sidelined with an injury. I was disappointed when my doctor informed me that I would most likely not be able to play for 2-3 months. Fortunately, a tennis friend who had recently had a tennis injury, told me about her positive experience with the Back2Normal team. Following her suggestion, I called to make an appointment. As soon as I walked in the door, I was warmly welcomed. I knew right away that I had made the right decision and felt optimistic about getting the support I needed for a full recovery.
- After your initial appointment what have been your top 3 goals during your journey with Back 2 Normal?
My top 3 goals are to become physically stronger and more balanced in order to minimize the risk of future injuries, to commit to a regular program of stretching and to make nutritional and fitness choices that will provide excellent quality of life for many years to come.
- What steps have you taken to beresponsible for reaching those goals?
In order to improve my level of fitness and to strengthen my core, I have embarked on a program of Pilates and personal training with Ilene. I am also following Lisa’s recommendations for at home exercise, stretching and improvement of balance. I have created an in home space for exercise, stretching and foam rolling. I schedule regular massages with Liz so that I can maintain flexibility and protect myself from overuse injuries. For several months, I have been using a smart phone app that helps me track nutritional values, calories burned and weight loss. This has motivated me to keep making healthy choices every day.
- Have you had any setbacks and how did you overcome them?
I have been fortunate to not have had any setbacks since I began working with the B2N team.
- What would you say has been your greatest triumph, lesson, or change since you’ve begun your Back 2 Normal journey?
I believe that the most important change for me has been the realization that I am responsible for making choices that will make me a stronger, healthier and more balanced individual.
- What advice would you give others on taking charge of your health and recovery?
I would advise others to seek out a strong support system such as the B2N team. Educate yourself so that you can make the best choices for you. Take time for yourself and your training. Focus on your recovery effort and always maintain a positive attitude.
- How has the Back 2 Normal team helped you in your journey?
My experience with the Back2Normal team has been wonderful. The team approach is one of the many things that make B2N really stand out. Beginning with the first appointment and evaluation, Lisa identified the cause of my injury and developed a plan for recovery. I firmly believe that I was able to recover more quickly due to her expertise and guidance. Working with Ilene has made a significant change in my life. With Ilene’s support and encouragement, I have become a stronger and more confident person and am not afraid to push my limits. The combination of Pilates and personal training has helped me take control of my fitness and has gotten me back on the tennis court, stronger than ever before. The team’s coordinated approach to providing physical therapy, personal training and massage therapy has made me a very happy and healthy athlete! I can’t thank you enough for everything that you have done for me, for the care and support you have given to me during this journey to a healthier life.
